Why I started my business

Why I started my business

For a lot of my working life, I have worked in childcare. From nurseries, nannying and a 1-1/general TA in a primary school. These jobs very much involved the necessity to be self-motivated and organised. Even though I was under the direct instruction of the class teacher, I couldn’t spend the day asking what to do next. I had to keep daily records, registers, and any other information to feedback to the teacher or to the dreaded Ofsted when they came to scrutinise your every move.
In between my childcare career, I built websites, I created graphics and spent a lot of time either fixing pcs or teaching the ex-MIL how to do basic tasks on her PC. I knew this was a real interest for me and wanted to turn it into a career. Sadly, I wasn’t 100% clear on how to do this and didn’t have the support at home to be able to continue, especially as at that point I had 3 children (one newborn). Financially I wasn’t able to complete much training other than a free considerably basic web building course. I completed it and actually didn’t learn any more than what I already knew.
So, I continued with the childcare career, where I met and worked with some absolutely inspiring young people. This was so good for my mental health too, as it made me sit back and evaluate my life. What had I got to complain about when I work with children who have so much to deal with and yet they take everything in their stride? The determination to take part in absolutely everything and not let anything get in their way.
Due to something happening in my personal life I had to leave my job at the school. I was heartbroken, I felt like I’d broken so many promises. My MH took a huge hit as I felt so guilty (I still do).
I took on a full-time nannying job, which was closer to home, saving me a lot of money in fuel too. This wasn’t to work out either. Too many issues which I best not get into either due to confidentiality.
My MH took a huge hit again, and then I was made homeless by my then partner.
I scrambled around trying to find work, deciding upon joining a well-known cleaning company. Although under the umbrella of the company, I was self-employed. It was definitely a job where you had to ne self-motivated and organised to do. There is also the necessity to be confidential at all times. Names, addresses, personal information etc. No-one would want their cleaner to be sharing personal details to outsiders.
More recently I have gone back to working with IT. Websites, remote repairs, WordPress plug-in updates, and of course I became a VA (Virtual Assistant), helping and supporting businesses with admin tasks and more – remotely. It seems more acceptable now to be working from home.
So, here I am rocking the VA life!
When life throws an obstacle in your way, don’t see it as a dead-end, see it as a change in direction and start over again.

When you have a look around my website, you will be able to see all of the different services I offer. These are the different tasks you could be outsourcing to a virtual assistant. Also, if you think of any different tasks I have not listed then please let me know via my email.
