Colour palettes– What do the colours mean? Look around you for inspiration.
Nature-Buildings-Fashion.
When making a logo, a website. social media posts etc choose your colours carefully and think about what they represent. Are they colours of nature, spring, autumn, summer or winter colours? Are they cool colours or warm colours? Are they colours that represent moods? Think about brands and how they use colours. How strange it would be if they suddenly went from bright red and yellow, to pale pinks and purples. Would they have the same meanings?
Colours trigger feelings
- Red- excitement & boldness
- Blue – tranquillity & trust
- Green – growth & nature
- Orange – enthusiasm & confidence
- Yellow – joy & energy
- Purple – wealth & power
When choosing colours for your brand, think about the main colour first. This will be the colour that stands out the most. Think about the products or services you offer. Are they high-end products? If so you might choose purple. If you want to reach a much wider audience then you would choose a colour that promotes trust or growth.
Then choose complimentary colours to go with the main colour. These are colours that are opposite on a colour wheel.
So, you can see how the yellows/oranges are opposite the blues. These colours go well together.
